Supporting Women Through Every Stage of Midlife
Perimenopause and menopause bring not just physical changes, but emotional shifts that can affect your daily life, relationships, and sense of self. At Matrescence Therapy, we understand that these transitions are more than “just a phase.” They can be challenging, confusing, and, at times, isolating.
We’re here to help you navigate the emotional, mental, and relational aspects of perimenopause and menopause—so you can feel supported and empowered every step of the way.
Finding balance in a time of change.
Perimenopause and menopause are natural life stages, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy. You may find yourself experiencing hot flashes, disrupted sleep, brain fog, mood swings, or changes in your libido—alongside the everyday responsibilities of work, family, and self-care.
It’s not just about the symptoms—it’s about how they impact your confidence, your relationships, and your ability to feel like yourself. You deserve space to address both the physical and emotional sides of this transition.
You might be experiencing:
- Irritability, anxiety, or sudden mood changes
- Feeling disconnected from your body or identity
- Strained communication with your partner or loved ones
- Difficulty sleeping or low energy during the day
- Frustration over memory lapses or trouble focusing
- Feeling isolated or misunderstood by those around you
- Guilt or sadness over changes in your physical abilities or appearance
Care designed for you.
Sessions are typically 45-55 minutes long and done from the comfort of your own home. Our therapists are skilled in addressing a wide range of issues, including managing stress, balancing work and life, mental health concerns, and more. Our first session will discuss how you have been feeling lately, and we will learn a little more about you. We will then work together to create a plan to help you start feeling better. Our approach provides support in a way that fits your busy lifestyle:
- Virtual Therapy: Sessions are held online, so you can attend therapy from the comfort of your own home. You’re welcome to have your children with you if needed, ensuring that you never have to choose between your family and your well-being.
- Experienced Therapists: Our therapists specialize in parenting challenges and postpartum mental health. You’ll work with someone who truly understands what you’re going through and can offer expert guidance.
- Compassionate Care: We create a warm, understanding environment where you feel heard, supported, and never judged. Your experience is unique, and we approach every session with respect and empathy.
- Ongoing Support: Therapy isn’t just about one-time solutions—it’s a long-term process. We’re here to support you on your parenting journey, helping you build the skills and resilience you need to face challenges and thrive as a parent.
What is Matrescence?
Matrescence is the physical, psychological, and emotional change that occurs during the process of becoming a mother. However, here at Matrescence we consider it to be ALL parenthood, not just motherhood. It is considered a developmental phase, much like adolescence, that can involve a variety of things such as hormonal shifts, body changes, identity reconstruction, and relationship transitions. The four components that contribute to the challenges of matrescence are:
- Changing Family Dynamics: adding a child or children to a relationship undoubtedly causes strain and stress
- Ambivalence: the push and pull of wanting a baby close, but also an intense desire for space
- Fantasy vs. Reality: anticipating parenthood will go one way, and then discovering it may look different
- Guilt and Shame: fear that one may never live up to the “perfect” parent.
If you and/or your partner feel these challenges, contact us to learn more about
how we can help.
Insurance & Payment Information
We are currently in network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois PPO, BCBS Blue Choice, Cigna/Evernorth, Aetna, and United Healthcare plans. We strongly recommend checking with your individual plan to inquire about therapy benefits. You may be responsible for co-payment or other costs. If we are out of network with your provider and you would like to submit through your insurance, we are able to provide you with a receipt (known as a “superbill”). You are then able to submit this to your provider for reimbursement, if your plan provides this type of coverage.
