Pregnancy and childbirth can be an amazing experience, but it can also take a toll on our bodies. It’s easy to feel like we need to “bounce back” and look like we did before we were pregnant, but your body has done something incredible – it brought a new life into the world!

You may feel overwhelmed after giving birth, and your body may feel foreign and unrecognizable. It’s normal to feel that way, but you can honor and appreciate your post-pregnancy body.

Here are some things that helped me:

  1. First and foremost, take care of yourself. Eat healthy, nourishing foods, get outside and go for a walk or do some yoga, and take some time for yourself to recharge
  2. Second, embrace your new body. Your body has been through a lot, and it’s okay if it doesn’t look exactly like it used to. Try to focus on the incredible things that your body has accomplished, like growing and nurturing a tiny human being.
  3. Third, surround yourself with positivity. Hang out with friends and family who lift you up and avoid any negative influences, especially on social media
  4. Fourth, invest in some new clothes that fit your new curves. Don’t worry about trying to squeeze back into your pre-pregnancy clothes – find pieces that are comfortable and make you feel good.
  5. Lastly, don’t be afraid to seek professional help if you need it. Postpartum body image issues are very common, but that doesn’t mean they’re easy to deal with. Speaking with a therapist or counselor can be a huge help.

Remember that you are beautiful, you are strong, and you are worthy of love and respect – no matter what your post-pregnancy body looks like. Honor your body and treat yourself with kindness and compassion as you navigate this new phase of your life.
