Your Well-Being Matters As Much As The Roles You Play
Being a young woman and a mom can be an incredible journey, but it’s not always straightforward. From the moment you step into motherhood, life can feel like a whirlwind of emotions, responsibilities, and changes—both physical and emotional. It’s not just about good days or hard days; motherhood often comes with a mix of highs and lows that can feel overwhelming and exhausting.
While this experience can sometimes feel isolating, you are not alone. Many women struggle with the pressures of parenting, career, relationships, and self-care. The good news? Support is available, and counseling can help you find balance and feel more like yourself again.
Have you been:
Feeling anxious, sad, or completely drained?
Struggling to find time or energy for yourself?
Experiencing mood swings or feeling on edge?
Dealing with challenges in your relationship with your partner or family?
Feeling disconnected from activities you used to love?
Experiencing guilt, shame, or self-doubt about your role as a mom?
You don’t have to navigate the challenges of motherhood alone. Counseling can offer a safe, supportive space to process your emotions, reconnect with yourself, and build the tools you need to thrive in this demanding yet rewarding stage of life.

Signs You Might Benefit from Counseling:
- Constant Exhaustion: Due to disrupted sleep patterns and demanding schedules.
- Patience Challenges: Managing tantrums and challenging behavior tests parental patience.
- Isolation: Limited social interactions due to childcare responsibilities.
- Time Pressure: Struggling to find time for personal pursuits, self-care, work, and quality family time.
- Worry: Concerns about child safety, development, and future well-being.
- Self-Identity: Feeling a loss of personal identity and struggling to maintain hobbies and interests.
- Comparison: Comparing parenting styles and children’s milestones, leading to anxiety and self-doubt.

Get Started with Matrescence Therapy
What is Matrescence?
Matrescence is the physical, psychological, and emotional change that occurs during the process of becoming a mother. However, here at Matrescence we consider it to be ALL parenthood, not just motherhood. It is considered a developmental phase, much like adolescence, that can involve a variety of things such as hormonal shifts, body changes, identity reconstruction, and relationship transitions. The four components that contribute to the challenges of matrescence are:
- Changing Family Dynamics: adding a child or children to a relationship undoubtedly causes strain and stress
- Ambivalence: the push and pull of wanting a baby close, but also an intense desire for space
- Fantasy vs. Reality: anticipating parenthood will go one way, and then discovering it may look different
- Guilt and Shame: fear that one may never live up to the “perfect” parent.
